Lower Back Pain Treatment
Lower back pain is one of the most common physical complaints in the world. In fact, 70-90% of all men and women in the United States have had or will have at least one instance of debilitating lower back pain.
There are a number of choices out there for lower back pain treatment, but one with a high success rate for a lower back pain treatment is inversion therapy. Using a Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table helps in the relief of back pain in four main ways: it rehydrates the discs in the spine, reduces nerve pressure, realigns the spine, and relaxes tense muscles.
Take Care of Your Discs
The discs in your back are made up of jelly-like material that acts like shock absorbers inside your spine. These “sponge like” discs, made up of soft tissue, get compressed during normal daily activities, thus causing the nutrients and moisture to be squeezed out of the discs and become dehydrated. As a result of this process, your discs will lose some height, restricting movement and the chance of pain, discomfort, and pinched nerves increases.
By the end of each day, the average person will actually lose approximately half an inch of height due to gravity-induced compression. For the most part, fluid is restored overnight and you return to normal height by the morning – but not completely. The compression of the soft tissue can result in up to two inches of height loss by the age of seventy!
There are more and more medical studies showing Inversion therapy as an alternative to other invasive treatments such as surgery and mechanical traction for lower back pain treatment. A recent study released by the Newcastle University in England showed that patients who used a Teeter were 70.5% less likely to require back surgery for Sciatica than patients who practiced general physical therapy alone. Another study conducted by F. Sheffield treated 175 patients who were incapable of working due to their back pain. Out of those 175 people, 155 of them were able to go back to their jobs on a full time basis after only eight inversion therapy sessions!
Another study by physiotherapist L.J. Nosse found that muscle tension declined over 35% within ten seconds of inversion. It is suggested that the stretch to the muscles while in the inverted position (as low as 25 degrees) allows increased circulation to enter the sore muscle, bringing oxygen rich blood to the muscles. The reversal of body position can help to stimulate the lymph system, moving lymphatic fluid more easily through the body to accelerate the removal of wastes from the muscles, which helps to reduce pain and the stiffness.
Joanne Broatch, author of the book Better Back, Better Body, wrote: “Much back pain is caused by muscles that are cramped, tense and in spasm, and inversion can relieve this kind of pain.”
An Excellent Lower Back Pain Treatment
Decreasing muscle tension and flushing toxins from the muscles combined with re-aligning the spine and decreasing pressure on the nerve-roots through a regular program of inversion therapy is a recipe for lower back pain treatment.
